Netflix, NBCUniversal, ESPN Secure 3-Year MLB Media Rights Deals Worth $800M Annually
Major League Baseball has inked three-year media rights agreements with Netflix, NBCUniversal, and ESPN, marking a strategic shift toward streaming platforms. The deals, valued at a combined $800 million annually from 2026 to 2028, highlight the growing competition for live sports content as a subscriber acquisition tool.
Netflix gains exclusive rights to broadcast the season opener and Home Run Derby, along with all 47 games of the 2026 World Baseball Classic in Japan—a $50 million investment. ESPN will distribute MLB.TV, expanding its sports streaming portfolio. These agreements position MLB to renegotiate broadcast rights more aggressively post-2028 when current Fox and Warner Bros. Discovery contracts expire.
